A History

The Joglo originates from the central island of  Java in Indonesia and has been used for centuries in the construction of Javanese Houses.  With Teak being a natural product in abundance, the Joglo is crafted to form the internal structure of a Javanese House. Its purpose is to hold up the roof structure but also serve as a greeting area for guests as well as dining and cooking. It was therefore important that it impressed upon visitors with it beautiful carvings underlying the households status. Many Joglos are still found in Javanese houses today.

Joglos come in a range of designs however the sizes are based on the number of cells. A

Joglos in the 21st Century

Joglos have been adopted in the west for a range of uses. Serving as an outdoor shading area very much like the tropical gazebo. These large structures can be found in Palaces and sumptuous private residences. Lately they have been found inside restaurants to add a unique ambiance to the dining scene.
